Dried blue/black Juniper berries foraged from the Canadian wilderness. Wild Juniper is a staple ingredient in many dishes and drinks and is the signature flavour of Gin. There are roughly 60 different types of Juniper. Most of what we carry is Juniperus communis and occasionally Juniperus virginiana.
Juniper grows abundantly in many places around the world and as such, has become popular with many different cuisines and pairs particularly well with game meats such as venison or moose as well as duck, rabbit, and pork dishes.
Check out Nickle 9 Distillery to try some lovely Canadian gin made with our hand foraged Ontario Juniper berries.
When cooking with juniper, limit yourself to a few berries per serving. Too many (6 or more berries) can cause some people upset stomachs. Juniper is extremely flavourful so you dont need much anyway.
