Labrador Tea
Labrador Tea (Rhododendron tomentosum), also known as marsh rosemary or muskeg tea - is a evergreen shrub that grows in the tundra. It has a unique savoury flavour that Thoreau described as the smell of bees. Because it contains terpenoid ledol, it is mildly narcotic, which is why it has been used for centuries to aid relaxation and as a medicine. Mainly drunk as a tisane, it can also be added to vegetable stews and meats and even gin in place of juniper. Only a few leaves (4-6) should be consumed at any one time. Avoid it altogether if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
