Stratified Ontario Pawpaw seeds 20 pack. 

Our Asimina triloba seeds come from a variety of established pawpaw trees around Ontario that produce good tasting and decent sized fruit. Because pawpaw is not true to parent, there will be some genetic variation and different fruit characteristics from different plants. These are not cultivars, however they should share many of the same qualities from their parent fruits.

Packed with damp paper towel, pawpaw seeds must remain moist to be viable for growing, some mold may appear on the seeds or paper towel, this is natural and will not harm their ability to grow.   

Our pawpaw seeds have been fully stratified and are ready to plant. More then 1 pawpaw tree needs to be established for fruit to set, it is ideal to plant 4 or more at a time. It can take between 7 and 10 years for a tree to mature enough to set fruit depending on soil and light conditions. 

Pawpaw seeds can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to open up, ideal sprouting soil temp is around 15c (59f), often sending down a tap root before any leaf is visible, as pictured above you can see a new pawpaw plant wearing a seed like a hat, do not try to force a sprouted pawpaw open, the plant will shed the seed in time. Pawpaw will put down a deep tap root so if you are raising seedlings prior to planting them in their forever space, milk cartons and 12 inch tall tree pots are great as they will leave lots of room and help avoid issues with the roots.
